WeaselWorks Feels Slow

Weasel in a Hard Hat Holding Building Plans

The WeaselWorks Speed Check tells you where slowness comes from. It times a few requests and says whether your server, meaning WordPress with all its plugins, or the connection is the slow part.

In short: go to WeaselWorks › Organization Settings and run Speed Check. Share the numbers with your host if the server is slow.

Reading the WeaselWorks Speed Check

  • Server slow: WordPress itself is taking long to answer. Every plugin on your site adds to this, not only WeaselWorks.
  • Connection slow: the time is spent getting to and from the server, often a busy network or a distant host.

Ways to Speed Things Up

  1. Ask your host about faster PHP and more memory for WordPress.
  2. Switch off plugins you no longer use.
  3. Keep WordPress, your theme and your plugins up to date.
  4. Archive finished tasks so Boards stay light.

WordPress has its own advice on optimizing your site. If WeaselWorks pages look old rather than slow, see Something Looks Out of Date After an Update.

Tip: WeaselWorks saves changes in the background, so the screen updates straight away even on a slower server.

Watch out: CSS and JavaScript "optimize" settings in caching plugins can break app pages. If you switch them on, test a WeaselWorks page afterwards, and leave WeaselWorks pages out if anything misbehaves.
