Notification Emails Aren’t Arriving

Weasel in a Hard Hat Holding Building Plans

WeaselWorks emails not arriving? The cause is nearly always how your website sends email, not WeaselWorks itself. Many hosts send WordPress email poorly, so messages land in spam or never leave the server.

In short: send a Test Email, check spam, and install an SMTP plugin such as WP Mail SMTP. That fixes most cases.

WeaselWorks Emails Not Arriving? Five Checks

  1. Are emails switched on? Check WeaselWorks › Organization Settings › Email Notifications.
  2. Send a test. Use Test Email there, or Send Test on any email in WeaselWorks › Emails.
  3. Look in spam and any "Promotions" or "Other" folder.
  4. Check the person's own settings. Each person chooses in-app or email notifications under Settings › Alerts in the app.
  5. Use an SMTP plugin so your site sends through a real mail service.

Tip: set a From Email on your own domain, such as team@yourdomain.com. Mail services trust it more than a generic address.

Which Emails Are Affected

The same fix covers every email your site sends: WeaselWorks invitations and notifications, and WordPress's own password reset emails. For setup details, see Making Sure WeaselWorks Emails Arrive.

Common Questions

The test arrives but invitations don't. Why?

Check the email address you entered for that person, and ask them to look in spam. You can also use Copy Invitation and send it yourself.

Do emails slow down posting comments?

No. On most hosts WeaselWorks sends notification emails after your comment is saved, so posting stays quick.
