Good WeaselWorks email delivery comes down to two things: telling WeaselWorks who the emails come from, and making sure your website can send email reliably. A few minutes of setup saves a lot of "I never got it".
In short: go to WeaselWorks › Organization Settings › Email Notifications, set a From Name and From Email, then click Test Email. If the test doesn't arrive, install an SMTP plugin.
Four Steps to Reliable WeaselWorks Email Delivery
- Switch emails on in Email Notifications.
- Set the sender. Add a From Name, such as your organization's name, and a From Email on your own domain.
- Send a Test Email to yourself and check it arrives.
- Use an SMTP plugin such as WP Mail SMTP so emails go out through a proper mail service.
Tip: if you leave From Email empty, WeaselWorks uses WordPress's own sender address, such as wordpress@yoursite.com, and never your personal email.
Which Emails WeaselWorks Sends
- Invitations and Added to a Workspace notes, when an administrator adds someone.
- Assigned and Mentioned alerts, when someone gives you a task or @mentions you.
- Task You Follow updates, for people who follow a task and have switched that email on.
- Review Requested and Changes Requested, with WeaselWorks Pro.
Each person chooses in-app or email notifications for themselves under Settings › Alerts in the app. You can change the wording of every email in WeaselWorks › Emails.
Common Questions
Do I need an SMTP plugin?
It isn't required, but many hosts send WordPress email poorly. An SMTP plugin is the most reliable fix for WeaselWorks email delivery.
Do password reset emails use the same setup?
Yes. They go through WordPress's normal mail, so an SMTP plugin delivers them too.
